When my daughter was born, we had no problems with breastfeeding. She latched on right away and was great about eating. We kept it up for 4 months; not as long as I would have liked, but circumstances at the time deemed it so.
However, there are plenty of women who have a variety of issues with breastfeeding and need the help of a lactation consultant. I’m not exactly sure what they do, since I never had to speak with one, but am glad they are there to help these women at the beginning.
One well-known lactation consultant, Freda Rosenfeld, recently spoke with CBS News Medical Correspondent, Dr. Jennifer Ashton, about the challenges of breastfeeding.
