Oh Pollen…How I Hate You

Oh my God people. I need some help.

I’ve been having a horrible case of allergies this past week. Sneezing, watery/itchy eyes, scratchy throat…you name it. I’m sure many of you have been dealing with it as well as I’ve seen just about everyone I know complaining about how bad this allergy season is so far. The other morning, I went to get in our car and it was yellow. And, not because it’s a yellow car – it’s actually black – but, it was yellow from the pollen coating that had accumulated overnight!

Each day, I cringe when I think about having to leave my house and step outside. I know that the minute I go anywhere, an allergy attack will begin and I won’t feel better until hours later (sometimes the next day). Of course, the next day it starts all over if I leave the house again.

As I tweeted this morning: I think I won’t be able to leave my house until June. Maybe then I won’t feel like I need to live inside a bubble.

The real problem – and what I need help with – is that I can’t take anything for my allergies! Oh, what I wouldn’t do to be able to take a Zyrtec right about now. Why can’t I take anything? Well, since we’re trying to conceive, I could potentially be pregnant at any moment without knowing it. I am not one that wants to risk our baby – especially in the very early stages of pregnancy.

I even called my GYN to see if there was anything I could take safely before we know either way. His answer? I can’t take any antihistamines, but anything else is fine. That made me laugh because hmmm, what allergy medicine does not have an antihistamine in it? And really, that’s what I need!

So, of course, this all brought about all types of questions.

  • What medicines can I take?
  • Are there any natural remedies for seasonal allergies?
  • What herbal teas are good for allergies?
  • Can I use eye drops? Or slather some Vicks VapoRub on my chest?

Have any of you dealt with this in the past? I’m dying for some answers because I can’t take these allergies much longer! I’m not able to sleep well at night from the snorting and coughing and of course, poor hubby can’t sleep either.

If you know of any natural remedies for allergies or dealt with them when pregnant, please, please, help me out. I’m betting one of you has the magical cure! No pressure, though. 😉
