Over the past 5 years, my baby girl has had a few bouts of skin rashes. Some are heat-related; we first noticed these when she was a little over a year old and we took a trip to Miami, where the sun is more intense than in Orlando. Others were more random and we didn’t know why they appeared. Her new pediatrician suggested they may be due to dry skin, though. What’s interesting, however, is that both pediatricians recommended I use Aquaphor.
So, we’ve been using Aquaphor in our house for a while now. In my experience, it works great for patches of dry skin and little bumps. When our newborn baby boy’s acne did not go away after the first month, as his doctor told us was normal for newborns, we realized he had different bumps and very dry skin. So what did we do after confirming it was safe with his doctor? We spread some Aquaphor on his face.
Interestingly, it was around that same time that BabyCenter asked if I wanted to try out the Aquaphor baby products: Aquaphor Gentle Wash & Shampoo and the Aquaphor Healing Ointment. Since I had never tried the Aquaphor baby wash, I figured it was the perfect time to do so! I hoped that the baby wash would provide another level of moisture for his skin and help with the dry skin issues he was having.
I’ve used the baby wash both on my baby boy and my 5-year-old girl. I do think that it’s helping their skin retain its moisture, but of course this is just our family’s experience. We’ve also been using various lotions, so any combination of things could be helping. I have to say, though, that my 5-year-old in true “kids are too honest” fashion said the baby wash “smelled like medicine.” She made me laugh the first time she said it and I had to reassure her that it wasn’t medicine, but just that it didn’t have a fragrance like other soaps and baby washes.
