As I mentioned a few weeks back, our baby girl is super excited that she’ll soon be a big sister. Every day she rubs my belly, kisses my belly, and talks to the baby. Everything I do revolves around the baby in her mind.
- Take a shower? “Is the baby clean now mommy?”
- If I say I’m hungry: “The baby’s hungry?”
- Take a swim? “Does the baby like it?”
- Laugh? “Is the baby happy?”
I am no longer my own person. It’s all about the baby now. It’s really very sweet and keeps me laughing.
Now that our girl is also reading her books from front to back on her own, we occasionally ask her to read the baby a book. Sometimes, she will sing the baby a song. And, she brings the baby some of her stuffed animals, especially those that play music.
I can’t wait for the day that she’ll be able to feel her baby brother or sister move about or kick. She’s going to completely flip out and then she’ll want to feel the baby at all times. She already asks things like, “Is this the baby’s head?” when she touches various parts of my belly. Of course, I can’t tell yet.
Something else she’s extremely excited about is the upcoming ultrasound. In 3 weeks, we’ll be having the “big” 18-week ultrasound where hopefully we’ll find out if we’re having a boy or a girl. She’s going to come with us, which is going to be a great experience for her to “see” her baby brother/sister on the screen and hear the heartbeat. Since she hasn’t completely grasped the concept of time yet, she asks about it nearly every day and is counting down the time!
I love that she has taken such an interest in the pregnancy and can tell she’s going to be a great big sister. Mami is proud.
